Discarded

Daniel Beltrá's Image

It was the rainy season when Daniel flew over part of the area where one of the Belo Monte dams will be built.

In some floodplains, shallow water prevented construction vehicles from reaching and removing the felled trees. So once-mighty trees lie in shallow water like discarded matchsticks. 'The water was so still that I could see the roots in the silvery water,' says Daniel. 'The clouds reflected in the water made it look as though the dead trees were floating up to the heavens.'
