Type specimens of Birds in The Natural History Museum

This website reproduces in electronic form the catalogue data on bird type specimens in the collections of the Natural History Museum, originally published in the two volumes listed below (both now out of print). This web version includes additions and corrections which had come to light by June 2001. The catalogue includes holotypes, syntypes, lectotypes and neotypes. It should be noted, however, that although all members of a syntype series have equal status, only one member of each has been listed regardless of how many may be in the NHM collections.

This site is for the scientific research community. It is assumed that the user has some knowledge of the significance of type specimens.
