Electronic reprints are posted on the Internet in portable document format(PDF) to be read or printed by  anyone on the Internet.  When printed, the "e-reprint" matches the traditional reprint exactly.
E-reprints are convenient for both authors and readers, and they cost little to produce.  Since 1994, the Florida Entomological Society has posted e-reprints of all articles published in Florida Entomologist (its refereed journal begun in 1917).  Because making and mounting the PDF files costs the Society less than $2.50 per page, it has opted not to charge authors for e-reprints but to absorb the cost within current page charges.

You can access these e-reprints at http://www.fcla.ufl.edu/FlaEnt/fehmpg.htm and decide for yourself if authors in your societies' journals might like to have the option of having their articles available in this form all the time anywhere on the Internet.

At the same site is a hyperlink to a fuller discussion of e-reprints, originally published in the March 1996 issue of BioScience, on p. 171.

Subject:  plant extracts against Tetranychus urticae

Greetings to all,

I'm currently doing a master in applied natural sciences at the Universit=E9 Catholique de Louvain, Belgium.  The subject is testing potential acaricidal activity of extract of tansy (Tanacetum vulgare) on the red spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae), which my provisional results seem to confirm.
Hence I've been looking in the litterature for other similar experiences, but I didn't find anything.  Does somebody know of such experiences, and can tell me where I can find some information ?

Thanks in advance

Third EURAAC Symposium

The Third Symposium of the European Association of Acarologists (EURAAC),
will be held in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in the first week of July (July
1-5), 1996. The meeting takes place in the main Auditorium of the
University of Amsterdam, entrance at Singel 411.

Main topics

The central theme of the Symposium is: Ecology and Evolution in the Acari.
Emphasis will be given to phylogeny, evolutionary ecology and speciation
processes. Registration and key note address will take place on Monday,
July 1, as well as the bussiness meeting of the EURAAC.

Lectures and Posters

The plenary morning sessions are composed of lectures which will be
presented by invited speakers. For the afternoon sessions, participants are
invited to submit contributed papers. There are also special poster
sessions. We ask you to submit an abstract of your contribution to the
Symposium secretariat. It is possible that participants are asked to
present a poster instead of a lecture when too many applications for
lecture presentations are received.

Proceedings

A selection of the papers presented at the Symposium will be published as a
special issue of Experimental and Applied Acarology. The contributions will
be subject to external review as is custom for international journals and
should be structured according to the guidelines of the journal.
Manuscripts should be delivered to the Symposium Secretariat during the
meeting. Publication is due within a year after the meeting.

The topics for the plenary sessions are:

S Phylogeny and Evolution

S Evolutionary Genetics, Morphology and Physiology

S Evolutionary Ecology: Behaviour, Life History and Multitrophic Interactions

S Speciation Processes

Registration fees

The registration fee for the Symposium will be Dfl 500.--, when payment is
received before April 1, 1996. Participants sending in their payment after
this date, but before June 1, 1996 have to pay Dfl 550.--, and the fee will
be Dfl 600.-- when paid during the meeting. Registration fee for students
will be Dfl 300.--, if paid before April 1, and will be Dfl 400.-- if paid
during the meetings. This fee includes admission to the meetings, the
proceedings, coffee, tea and lunches. An additional Dfl 75.-- is requested
for those who participate in the Symposium dinner. Payments should be made
either by cheque, international money order or by transfer to Postbank
account no. 5032138 in favour of Faculteit Biologie, Kruislaan 320,
Amsterdam. Please refer to EURAAC-Symposium for all your payments. The
Symposium Secretariat has no facilities to process payments by means of
credit cards.

Local Organising Committee

The local organising committee consists of the following persons: Maurice
Sabelis (Chairman), Kees Davids, Leo van der Geest and Fred Veerman, all
from the University of Amsterdam. Administrative support will be given by
Mrs Tine Korzilius.

- This book is the first publication in a planned series on mite pests and their predators on  cultivated plants in     southern Africa.
In this book berries and vegetables in southern Africa are reviewed.
- A key, based on microscopical characters, for the recognition of families, genera and species  is provided, as    well as a key for the field identification of mites using a x10 hand-lens.
- Each species is dealt with under the following headings:  hosts and distribution, field  diagnosis, distinguishing    characters, feeding injury, general biology and seasonal history (if available).
- Where information exists, the predators of each mite pest are listed or described.
- Notes on the various families and control measures, including the application of pesticides  and the biological    control of spider mites on vegetables grown in greenhouses and tunnels  are also included.
- Methods for collecting, preserving, sampling and examining mites are also given.
