1. 1882. Envelope addressed to Alfred Russel Wallace at Godalming, postmarked from The Admiralty, 22 July 1882, annotated in blue [in Alfred Russel Wallace's or William Greenell Wallace's hand] 'Storage of Gunpowder', containing pieces 1-4 and 6 when listed

2. 1878 (1899). Ms in an unknown hand ; including a printed design for a powder-keg pasted onto the first page, headed 'The Storage of Gunpowder with absolute security against explosion,. By Alfred Russel Wallace', 3 folios foolscap with '(Signed) Alfred Russel Wallace Croydon July 1, 1878 Godalming June 1882' all crossed through on the last page; a note in Alfred Russel Wallace's hand beginning 'the preceeding description applies ...' is attached and dated Parkstone, Dorset March 1899;

3. 1882 (1899) Note on a sheet of lined exercise-book paper in Alfred Russel Wallace's hand headed 'Copy of Memorandum by the Director of Naval Ordnance' 1882 (letter from the Admiralty, 22/6/1882);

4. 1882. 06.22 Letter from George T Lambert pp Sir Thomas Brassey, The Admiralty, 22 Jun 1882, to Alfred Russel Wallace, enclosing a copy of amemo dated 20 Jun 1882 by F A Herbert;

5. [1899] Ms in Alfred Russel Wallace's hand headed 'Safety for Powder Magazines To the Editor of the Daily News' Undated, 3 folios of lined exercise book paper, signed. (Found further down pile and inserted here). 1 piece. (SEE SMITH S562a. The Storage of Gunpowder [letter to the Editor referring to Wallace's c1882 idea that explosives might safely be stored under water]. The Daily Chronicle (London) no. 11562: 11c (24 March 1899).

6. 1899.04.10 Letter from the editor of 'The Ironmonger, Universal Engineer and Trades Advertiser', Cannon St London 10 Apr 1899, to Alfred Russel Wallace at Parkstone, thanking him for his report and enclosures on the storage of gunpowder and returning them, with comments on the proposal as applied to retailers; 2 folios TS
