DescriptionCharacteristic Animals of a Brazilian Forest. 1 proof print on card with handwritten labels stuck above and below the print. The title "Characteristic Animals of a Brazilian Forest" is given above and below is written "Howling Monkeys, Opossums, Collared Anteaters, Sloths and Sapajou Monkey". The scene depicts the listed mammals in a stropical forest scene. All the action takes place on tree branches. In the bottom left f/g are 2 sloths sitting and hanging from a lower tree branch. In the middle a Collared Anteater stands on a thick tree trunk with a group of Howler Monkeyd above on an overhanging branch. In the middle distance a group of Sapajou Monleys (Capuchin Monleys) sitting on branch. In the top right 2 Opossums are on another tree - 1 hanging by it's tail and the other sitting on the tree trunk. They are portrayed larger than life size. There are unspecified birds flying in the sky in the b/g. There are plenty of ferns, vines and leave with mountains in the far distance on the left. This illustration is Plate XIV in vol 2 of The Geographical Distribution of Animals by A R Wallace, on page 24, publshed 1876. Illustrations by Johann Zwecker.
