| Description | Alfred Russel Wallace. Sepia photograph in carte de visite format, 1895. Wallace is sitting in a chair displaying his left profile. His hands are in his lap and legs crossed, left over right. Underneath the photograph in gilt lettering is "London Stereoscopic & Photographic Co. Ltd. 106 & 108 Regent St". On the back of the photo the company name is repeated with "photographers to the Royal family" and another address "54 Cheapside, E.C." as well as other advertising material. This is one of three known versions - this one shows more of the fern on Wallace's left (our right). This version was first published in the Labour Annual 1896 as a frontispiece.
