| Description | Alfred Russel Wallace, 1853, aged 30. Black and white photographic print, dated 1853. Alfred is in profile, facing right, seated at a desk and looking down at papers on the desk. Underneath the portrait is printed Alfred R Wallace, 1853. The portrait is obviously taken from a publication as there is another printed note "to face p. " and then "324 v 1" is added by hand. The photograph was taken by Wallace's brother in law Thomas Sims in London and used in My Life: a record of events and opinions.
