Responsible for sponge, tunicate, coral and botanical drawings in the public galleries. Born London 12 August 1856, father was medical book publisher, Samuel Highley, Fleet Street. Highley worked on the 'Challenger' report, contributing to polyzoa, sponges, corals and crinoids. Worked on algae, diatoms etc for G Murray, Botany Dept and contributed to many publications inc Flora of Jamaica and Handbook of British Seaweeds. Married, one daughter. Died Wokingham, Surrey, 23 January 1929. |
