A world-renowned expert on fossil brachiopods, Robin joined the NHM in 1965. He contributed his deep knowledge towards palaeoecology, Earth history, stratigraphy and palaeogeography. Awarded various medals for his contributions to palaeontology and geology, Robin was appointed OBE in 1999.

Although Robin retired in 1998, he continued at the NHM as an active Scientific Associate pursuing his passion for brachiopod taxonomy, and its application across various palaeontological disciplines, contributing to journal articles and book chapters throughout.
