Activity | Studied medicine at the University of Halle and Greifwald. Under the auspices of Alexander von Humboldt, traveled to Brazil (1850-52) where he studied natural history in Minas Gerais and Rio de Janiero. Returned to South America (1856) to study natural history in Argentina and Uruguay. Became the Director of the National Museum of Natural History in Buenos Aires (1862) where he worked for thirty years until his death. Entomologist, studied primarily Coleoptera, and reviewed the taxonomy of Scarabaeidae. |
