Activity | Tring correspondent. ?President or secretary of the Neuer Club of Berlin. In 1908 Neumann, who had lost almost all his fortune, was offered a position at Tring by Walter Rothschild. He started working on African birds when, only a few months later, Rothschild found himself faced by financial troubles, and Neumann was let go.
Oscar R. Neumann was persecuted by Nazi Germany as a Jew and escaped via Lisbon and Cuba in 1942. In January 1943, he went to Chicago, where family members were living. His collection remained in Berlin, Germany, and ended up with Julius Riemer, who later donated it to the City of Wittenberg.
Oscar R. Neumann worked as a volunteer at the Field Museum of Natural History until his death in 1946. |
