Activity | Obtained his degree at Trinity College, Oxford during which time he helped to arrange the Pitt - Rivers collections. After his degree he continued to work at the Pitt Rivers Museum. He was appointed curator of the museum in 1891 a post which he held until his death. From 1907 he taught technology and prehistoric archaeology on the anthropology diploma course at Oxford. Between 1905 and 1909 he travelled to Norway 5 times to study whales and whaling and collected for his museum.
