Activity | Travelled to Uganda in 1901 and was appointed to the East African Administrative Service in 1902. His work was offset with travel, hunting and ornithology. He was appointed assistant collector in 1902 and was transferred to Baringo, Kenya in 1904 as assistant district commissioner. He was promoted to district commissioner in 1907 and by 1909 he had opened a northern frontier constabulary for Northern Kenya. In 1911 he was promoted to officer in charge of the district. He transferred in 1913 to Somaliland as acting commissioner and was made commissioner there in 1914. He was appointed governor of Uganda in 1923 and in November 1924 he was appointed governor - general of Sudan. He resigned the post in 1926 and spent his retirement in India and France. |
