Activity | In 1898 Boyd Alexander went on an ornithological expedition to Zambezi River and 1899 he joined the Gold Coast constabulary. During 1904 he undertook an expedition from the mouth of the Niger to the Nile delta to survey Northern Nigeria and to demonstrate that Africa could be crossed from East to West via waterways, during the expedition Boyds brother Claude Alexander died of fever (November 1904). The expedition finally reached the Nile Delta in December 1906. On returning to England Boyd was awarded the Gold Medal from the Royal Geographical Society of Antwerp (1907) and the founders medal of the Royal Geographical Society of London (1908). He returned to Africa in 1909 and was murdered by tribesmen at Nyeri,Kenya in April 1910. His body was taken to Maifoni, Nigeria to be buried beside his brother.
