Activity | Elected a probationary fellow at Balliol 1874 which he held until 1882. Wrote 'Election Gude' 1884 which helped to launch his legal career. Became the liberal candidate for East Fife 1886 and it remained his constituency until 1918. He became a QC in 1890 He was appointed as Gladstone's Home Secretary in 1892. During the 1890's he returned to legal work as the liberals were out of power, He was named Chancellor of the Exhequer 1905 - 1908 in the new liberal government under Campbell-Bannerman and when he was forced to resign through ill health in 1908 Asquith became the next Prime Minister. He remained as Prime Minister until 1916. After he resigned as Prime Minister he continued on as leader of the liberal party until 1927 |
