Attended Owen's College, Manchester 1887. Awarded English Essay Prize and consistently achieved high marks at the University of Manchester, graduating with distinction in Science and Medicine. Studied Zoology under Milnes Marshell, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree (London) with honours in Zoology 1890. Took Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (Manchester) with first class honours 1893, and then became a Bachelor of Medicine (London) 1894. House Physician at Manchester Royal Infirmary and at the Royal Hospital for Diseases of the Chest in London 1893-94. Obtained commission in Indian Medical Service 1895. Involved in military duties in India. Field service with Tirah Expeditionary Force 1897-98. Medical Officer to the 2nd (later 22nd) Punjab Cavalry 1898. Held civil surgeoncies' as Peshawar, Ambala and other stations in North West India. Chair of Biology in Government College, Lahore 1906. Built up school of zoology in Lahore, India. Obtained Doctor of Science degree at London University 1909. Principal of Government College 1912-1919. Vice Chancellor of Punjab University 1918. Retired from India 1919. Accepted lectureship in zoology at the University of Edinburgh 1920. Awarded the Keith Medal of the Royal Society of Edinburgh 1920. Moved to London 1929 as an unofficial worker in the Natural History Museum. Zoological Secretary of the Linnean Society [1931-33]. Elected a Fellow of the Royal Society 1930. Died on 2 February 1933 from an incurable disease. |
