Activity1909 appointed a fellow of Kings College, Cambridge (until 1915) and appointed to the geological survey of Great Britain. 1913 appointed Lecturer in Geology and Geomorphology at the University of Birmingham, 1932 he became professor and head of department. 1922 he was awarded the Wollaston Fund by the Geological Society of London, its Lyell Medal in 1936 and in 1954 the Wollaston Medal though he was never made a fellow of the Society. He retired in 1949
Honorary member of the East Midlands Geological Society 1967. Is the first British Honorary Fellow of the Geological Society of London 1976.
