Joelson was a writer on African affairs and the founder and editor of the weekly newspaper East Africa and Rhodesia , which ran from 1924 to 1967 and was known as East Africa from 1924 to 1938. His published books include: The Tanganyika Territory (formerly German East Africa): Characteristics and Potentialities (1920), Eastern Africa Today and Tomorrow (1934), and Germany's Claims to the Colonies (1939).
