DescriptionThis series consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence of the Zoology Library, kept in a series between 1916-1926 and 1929-1948. Subject matter includes the acquisition of library material, enquiries, loans, and library accommodation and equipment. It also contains other miscellaneous correspondence and a series of internal memoranda 1935-1977, of which more recent files are held in the Modern Records Store.
The main people featured in the correspondence are various heads of Zoology (much of the correspondence surviving from 1916-1930s is signed by W T Calman, the Deputy Keeper of Zoology (later Keeper) and the Zoology Librarians. These are John Saunders ([1847?]-1900), Herbert William England (1900-1937), Frederick Charles Sawyer (1937-1966), Gavin Douglas Ruthven Bridson (1966-1969) and Ann Datta, nee Lucas (1969-2004).

The staff file of H W England, the second Zoology Librarian, is held under DF208/9 and includes a description he wrote of his duties. The reminiscences of F C Sawyer, the third Zoology Librarian, are in DF5012/38.
