DescriptionDr Alan Glasgow Knox (b.4th December 1950 in Belfast) was Senior Scientific Officer on the Sub-department of Ornithology staff from 1st December 1981 to early 1989. He worked on evolution and taxonomy of some Palaearctic passerines (mainly crossbills and redpolls) and the study of feathers. He was the author, with M.P. Walters, of Extinct and endangered birds in the collections of the Natural History Museum (1994) and an important paper on crossbills in Ibis which threw doubt on some specimens collected by Meinertzhagen. He later worked at the Buckinghamshire County Museum in Aylesbury and is now at the Heritage Department in Aberdeen.
