Description | The series contains the series of hanging calendars published by the Museum during the 1920s and 1930s. Each consists of a single sheet of stiff card bearing an illustration and caption, information on opening hours, publications, recent acquisitions, expeditions in progress, and a list of senior staff. A monthly calendar for the year is stapled to the board. All of the calendars in the collection have been used and are missing most of these stapled sheets. Also included in the series are a number of single-sheet almanacs, bearing similar types of information, such as history of the building, growth of collections, statues and busts exhibited, special exhibitions, expeditons made by staff and others, details of World War I, list of directors, keepers and other officers. Within the press cuttings there is a newspaper article, 8 Dec 1924, which stated these almanacs were produced ‘To advertise more widely the attractions of the British Museum at South Kensington.’ And there is a single printed Annual. |
