TitleReptile Gallery: Open case with snake skeleton
DescriptionThis Indian python skeleton, Python molurus, is still on display today. It was probably acquired around 1900 for exhibition in the Reptile Gallery (the Museum's collections were divided into exhibition specimens and study collections), possibly from a zoo, and has been on show ever since. The character of the Reptile Gallery changed very little between the 1880s and the 1970s, when, with the Crustacea and Fish Galleries at the rear of the west wing, it was redeveloped as part of the New Exhibition Scheme to create the Hall of Human Biology. The reptiles remaining on display were moved to a new home off the North Hall.
