Title | Gallery Photograph Album 3: Formation on the stairs - Unveiling of Selous Memorial |
Description | Frederick Courtenay Selous (1851-1917) was one of the most famous big game hunters of his time. He spent much of his life in Africa, but also hunted in North America and Asia Minor. Many of his specimens were sent here, and when he was killed in action at Beho Beho in modern-day Tanzania, it was decided that the Museum would be the most appropriate place for a memorial. The bronze bust by William Colton, set in granite from the Zimbabwean Matoppo Hills, was unveiled in the Central Hall on 10 June 1920, before a guard of honour of Boy Scouts.
