| Description | This series contains the only three official diaries which survive from the staff of the General Library. B B Woodward's 1878-1879 diary (DF604/1) covers his work in the Department of Printed Books at the British Museum, when he spent his year correcting cards and altering press marks. The 1882-1883 diary (DF604/2) documents his work in gathering acquiring and processing books and serials for the newly formed General Library. Townsend's diary covers the period of postwar reconstruction of the Library.
