AdminHistory | Accession records are registers of new additions to the Museum’s collections of specimens as they were received, identified, and incorporated into the collection.
Formal registration began at the British Museum in 1837, following the resolution included in the Report of the Select Committee on the British Museum (dated 1836, the Select Committee having been appointed by Parliament to inquire and report on the condition, management and affairs of the British Museum)1 which stated that every new accession should be registered in detail by the head of each department, however there some accession records which pre-date this resolution. |
