EpithetPublishers of travel guides
ActivityPublishing company, founded by Karl Baedeker (1801-1859); published popular guidebooks for tourists, which were known as 'Baedeker's'. The guides were often written by best specialists, were frequently revised, and were in handy small format. Baedeker founded his company in 1827 in Koblenz, and in 1832 bought the Koblenz publishing company of Friedrich Röhling, which published handbook for travellers from Mainz to Köln (Cologne). The company relocated to Leipzig in 1872, under Karl Baedeker's third son Fritz, who took over control of the company following the death and disablement of his older brothers. Fritz managed the explosive growth in the line of travel guides, also producing international guides. In World War II, Germany launched a series of attacks against English cities featured in the Baedeker Guide to Britain, known as the Baedeker raids. The company's premises was destroyed by an air raid in December 1943, but Baedeker's great grandson revived it, restarting, in 1948, publication of tourist guides. (Souce: Wikepedia).
