Description | Tiny 'coffin' discovered by police during a sweep of the Museum, prior to the installation of the 'Diamonds' exhibition in 2005, taped beneath an original 19th century A-framed cabinet in the Birds Gallery. Investigations and conversations with longer serving Museum staff revealed that the 'coffin' had been made by Museum Carpenters in protest of gallery renovation, which had ordered the burning of original Victorian cabinetry.
The 'coffin' is made from salvaged cabinet wood and with an inlaid cross. Sealed within are cabinet ashes.
