UK prize competition terms and conditions

  1. The Promoter

    The promoter is: The Trustees of the Natural History Museum of Cromwell Road, South Kensington, London SW7 5BD.

  2. The competition

    2.1 The title of the competition is Wildlife Photographer of the Year Trail.

    2.2 The competition invites participants to journey through the Wildlife Photographer of the Year website (www.nhm.ac.uk/wpy) and digital archive through image-based clues, using the platform’s filters and tagging system to identify the correct images. The trail is made up of a total of 10 images and upon finding the final image, participants will be invited to enter their details for a chance to win one of three Wildlife Photographer of the Year trail competition prizes (outlined in section 5).

  3. How to enter

    3.1 The competition will run from 10:00:00 on 24 March 2021 (the "Opening Date") to 10:00:00 BST on 14 April 2021 (the "Closing Date") inclusive.

    3.2 All competition entries must be received by the Natural History Museum no later than 10:00:00 BST on the Closing Date. All competition entries received after the Closing Date are automatically disqualified.

    3.3 All entries must be completed online using the competition entry form. Only one entry per participant will be entered into the draw.

    3.4 Any participant under the age of 18 years old will need consent from a parent or guardian to enter the competition. Contact details entered into the competition form must be that of the parent or guardian of the participant. (See section 4 for eligibility).

    3.5 To enter the competition:

    (a) Complete the trail on the Wildlife Photographer of the Year website (www.nhm.ac.uk/wpy) outlined in section 2.1, and

    (b) Enter your contact details into the competition form.

    3.6 No purchase necessary and there is no charge to register for use of the website.

    3.7 The Natural History Museum will not accept:

    (a) responsibility for competition entries that are not submitted before the closing date specified in section 3.1, regardless of cause, including, for example, because of any equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind; or

    (b) proof of entering or transmission as proof of receipt of entry to the competition, such as a screenshot of the submitted form; or

    (c) more than one entry per participant.

    3.8 By submitting a competition entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions.

    3.11 All participants who complete the trail and enter their contact details will be automatically enrolled into the competition. All valid participants will be entered into an anonymised digital selection tool where the first prize will be drawn. The winning participant will be removed, and the next prize will be drawn from the remaining valid participants. This process will repeat until all prizes are drawn.

    3.12 One member of Natural History Museum Staff will conduct the draw using the anonymised digital selection tool and will be overseen by two additional members of the Natural History Museum staff. The decision of the anonymised digital selection tool and the three team members (acting responsibly) will be final.

  4. Eligibility

    4.1 The competition is open to any person who meets the entry criteria (see section 3), except:

    (a) employees of the Natural History Museum or its holding or subsidiary companies;

    (b) employees of agents or suppliers of the Natural History Museum or its holding or subsidiary companies, who are professionally connected with the competition or its administration; or

    (c) members of the immediate families or households of (a) and (b) above.

    4.2 In entering the competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim any prize you may win. The Natural History Museum may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the competition.

    4.3 The Natural History Museum will not accept competition entries that are:

    (a) automatically generated by computer;

    (b) completed by third parties or in bulk;

    (c) illegible, have been altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with;

    (d) incomplete.

    4.4 There is a limit of one entry to the competition per person. Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted unless the entry is being made on behalf of a person under the age of 18 years old by a parent or guardian.

    4.5 The Natural History Museum reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the prize competition.

  5. The prize

    5.1 The prizes are as follows:

    (a) First prize: a one-year family gift membership for up to 8 people to the Natural History Museum, a Wildlife Photographer of the Year custom wall print (up to the value of a 50x40cm framed print to the value of £60.00 GBP), a Wildlife Photographer of the Year Portfolio 30 catalogue, a Wildlife Photographer of the Year Highlights Edition 6 catalogue, a copy of How Wildlife Photography Became Art: 55 Years of Wildlife Photographer of the Year, a Postcard book of 18 images, The Embrace Magnetic Bookmark, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Black Tote, a Wildlife Photographer of the Year Biodegradable Pen and a Wildlife Photographer of the Year mug.

    (b) Second prize: four tickets to the exhibition (touring venue if international), a Wildlife Photographer of the Year Portfolio 30 catalogue, a Wildlife Photographer of the Year Highlights Edition 6 catalogue, a copy of How Wildlife Photography Became Art: 55 Years of Wildlife Photographer of the Year, a Postcard book of 18 images, The Embrace Magnetic Bookmark, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Black Tote, a Wildlife Photographer of the Year Biodegradable Pen and a Wildlife Photographer of the Year mug.

    (C) Third prize: a Wildlife Photographer of the Year Highlights Edition 6 catalogue, a Postcard book of 18 images, The Embrace Magnetic Bookmark, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Black Tote, a Wildlife Photographer of the Year Biodegradable Pen and a Wildlife Photographer of the Year mug.

    5.2 Prizes are subject to availability. There is no cash alternative for the prize.

    5.3 The prize is supplied by the Natural History Museum. The Natural History Museum reserves the right to replace the prize with an alternative prize of equal or higher value if circumstances beyond the Natural History Museum's control makes it necessary to do so.

    5.4 The prize is not negotiable or transferable.

    5.5 In order to claim the prize, the participant must confirm their acceptance by email.

  6. Winners

    6.1 The decision of the Natural History Museum is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.

    6.2 The Natural History Museum will contact the winner personally as soon as practicable after the Announcement Date, using the telephone number or email address provided with the competition entry. The Natural History Museum will not amend any contact information once the competition entry form has been submitted. If, after 5 working days, there is no response the participant will no longer be eligible to claim the prize.

    6.3 The Natural History Museum will publish and announce that the winners have been selected for the competition and will make information available that indicates that a valid award took place. To comply with this obligation the Natural History Museum will publish the name, county and country of major prize winners on the Wildlife Photographer of the Year website (www.nhm.ac.uk/wpy)

    6.4 If you object to any or all of your surname, county and winning entry being published or made available, please contact the Natural History Museum by email at wildpress@nhm.ac.uk. In such circumstances, the Natural History Museum must still provide the information and winning entry to the Advertising Standards Authority on request.

  7. Claiming the prize

    7.1 If you are the winner of a prize, you will have 5 working days from the Announcement Date to claim the prize by confirming its acceptance by email. Please refer to the details of how to claim in condition 5.8. If you do not claim the prize by this date, your claim will become invalid, and the prize will be offered to the next eligible winner.

    7.2 Please allow up to one month for the delivery of the prize if based within the UK and up to three months if you are based Internationally to the UK.

    7.3 The prize may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf.

    7.4 The Promoter will make all reasonable efforts to contact the winner. If the winner cannot be contacted or is not available or has not claimed their prize within 5 working days of days of the Announcement Date, the Natural History Museum reserves the right to offer the prize to the next eligible entrant selected from the correct entries that were received before the Closing Date.

    7.5 The Natural History Museum does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize.

  8. Limitation of liability

    Insofar as is permitted by law, the Natural History Museum, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Natural History Museum, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.

  9. Data protection and publicity

    9.1 The Natural History Museum will only process your personal information as set out in the Privacy notice. See also condition 6.3 and condition 6.4, with regard to the announcement of winners.

  10. General

    10.1 If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, the Natural History Museum may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the competition.

    10.2 The Natural History Museum reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize competition where it becomes necessary to do so.

    10.3 These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
