Tim LamanWildlife Photographer Portfolio Award

The following portfolio represents just some of the stunning images comprising Tim Laman’s 10-year project to photograph every one of the 39 species of birds-of-paradise of New Guinea, Australia, and the nearby islands, and record their courtship displays.

Undertaken with Cornell Lab biologist Ed Scholes, the project sought to vividly illustrate the concept of sexual selection first proposed by Charles Darwin.
