Ignacio Medem (Spain) highlights the bright green golf-putting green against the River Piedra marshes.
Using a drone to gain height, Ignacio shows in his aerial shot how the impact of golf courses has the potential to be felt far beyond their fairways. The pesticides and fertilisers used to promote grass growth and remove weeds run off into the wider environment, potentially damaging the marshes.
In Andalucía, golf course development is just one of the threats to the environment. The region's Piedra Marshes are also threatened by water extraction for farming, dredging for recreational boating and agricultural and urban pollution.

Ignacio's love of photography began when he was aged 17, but it was not until 2010 that he started focusing on wildlife. Since then, he has travelled all around the world in search of different species and environments to capture. These days Ignacio shoots with a drone, as he loves the perspectives that can be achieved with aerial photography, and in 2021 he published his first book of aerial photography.
Help us harness the power of photography to advance scientific knowledge, spread awareness of important issues and nurture a global love for nature.
