Night hunter

Angel Fitor's Image

Angel Fitor (Spain) and his camera are investigated by the undulating arms of a curious octopus.

No matter how many times Angel encountered Atlantic white‑spotted octopuses on his night dives, he always found their presence otherworldly. This time, with his inquisitive subject so close and probing his camera, Angel's biggest challenge was to focus on its prominent eye to create this magnetic portrait.

Gentle, curious creatures, these octopuses often hunt by touch, groping under rocks and sediment to find their prey or shooting jets of water to expose them. They feed on molluscs and crustaceans, using either their suckers to pull them apart or their parrot-like beaks to break into them.
