Ibex at ease

Giacomo Redaelli's Image

On a surprisingly hot February afternoon Giacomo spotted a group of ibex grazing in the mountains. He photographed this male as it settled into a shady spot, using strong contrast to highlight the texture of its horns.

Alpine ibex can be found on the high rocky plains of the Alps. Nearly hunted to extinction in the early 1800s, populations survived in Italy’s Gran Paradiso National Park and have been reintroduced across the rest of the Alps over the last century.
