Jaguars Come to Town

Every August in Chilapa de Alvarez, Guerrero, thousands of people congregate together to worship the jaguar, which plays a large role in Mexican culture and mythology.

However, in this part of the country, the once common jaguar is now extinct. It’s likely only a few of the older festival-goers remember seeing the occasional paw print in the forest.
