Against an outline of jagged mountain peaks, Georg watched the wind-whipped clouds in the moonlit sky. Tracing their movement with a long exposure of one minute and 45 seconds, he created the illusion of smoke billowing from the silhouetted summits, painting patterns across the illuminated night sky.
The Dolomites are a UNESCO-protected mountain range. They are composed of the hard carbonate rock dolomite, which forms peaks that then erode into jagged edges. This particular section is a chain known as the Odle massif, the main peak of which is Sass Rigais, which reaches 3,025 metres in height.

Georg has been a passionate nature photographer for around 25 years, but only takes pictures in his spare time and in his immediate surroundings in South Tyrol, Italy. This is where he is most likely to find the right view with the right light and the right subject. Through his pictures, he would like to encourage people to treat our beautiful natural world with respect and sensitivity.
Help us harness the power of photography to advance scientific knowledge, spread awareness of important issues and nurture a global love for nature.
