The rhino-horn farmer

Brent Stirton's Image

Dawie Groenewald runs luxury hunting safaris and breeds rhinos and other valuable game for sale on his farm in Limpopo, South Africa.

He is also a prominent voice in calls to legalise the country's trade in rhino horn. He argues, like others, that farming could supply demand without wild rhinos being killed.

A contentious issue in conservation circles, this approach and its ethics are disputed.

While the ban remains, the debate – like the poaching – continues.
