Rudi was gripped by Lençóis Maranhenses National Park’s photographic potential while watching a television programme. After nearly two years of planning, Rudi had to wait several more days for the perfect light overhead to bring out the colours. With clouds obscuring any direct sunlight he seized the moment ‘to get a shadowless purity’.
Pristine, white sand is blown into vast crescent-shaped dunes along Brazil’s Atlantic coast. During the rainy season, an impermeable layer below the sand causes thousands of lagoons to form. Algae and cyanobacteria tint the water with countless shades of green and blue, while streams carrying sediment from the distant rainforests run across in rusty veins.

After starting out as a graphic designer, Rudi decided to focus on what he really wanted to do: photography. After years of gaining experience and finding his style, he now works on long-term projects, fine art photography and stock photography. His interest is in the natural world in an artistic context, to support nature conservation.
