Fairy-tale forest

Agorastos Papatsanis's Image

The enchanting tales that surround mushrooms inspired Agorastos to create this ethereal picture. He used black-and-white to celebrate the graceful forms and alignment, and a vintage lens and wide aperture to achieve the dreamy background. By placing only two mushrooms in focus, Agorastos is ‘inviting you to step inside the fairy-tale’.

Most of the parasol mushroom fungus is hidden underground, with vast networks of hyphae stretching beneath the forest floor. When it comes to starting the next generation, the fungus sends up these spindly mushrooms. Their egg-shaped caps gradually flatten and release their spores.
