After spotting some lizard orchids one evening, Klaus returned the next morning to find the bulbs dug up and eaten, probably by wild boar.
In his disappointment, he noticed two solitary field gladioli in the meadow opposite. He used a low angle and wide aperture to isolate the blooms, encouraging people to pause and reflect on nature. Named for their sword-shaped leaves – the latin gladiolus translates as little sword – the bright pink flowers of field gladioli stand out in this sea of vetch and other meadow plants. A widespread and common species it can be found from the Mediterranean to central Asia and has been introduced in many countries as an ornamental plant.
