All but one of Connor’s portfolio images were taken with a wideangle lens, placing the subject within its wider environment, as in this portrait of a tern foraging just after sundown.
Connor loves wild places, and revealing new perspectives on wildlife. Winner of this award in 2013, he is now a professional photographer, aiming to concentrate on photojournalism. This picture illustrates the intersection of wetland, insects and birds. Unlike most terns, which feed solely on marine fish and occupy coastal habitats, black terns feast on terrestrial insects during the breeding season from May to July. They then migrate back to the coast, where they feed on small fish.
