Catch of the day

Sander Lødøen's Image

About five white-tailed eagles live on the fjord, Valldal, southwestern Norway, where Sander's family keeps a boat.

One spring day, he set off onto the water to photograph them. 'We were throwing fish out to attract them,' says Sander. Finally one swooped into frame. Sander had already decided on a slow shutter speed to capture the blur of action. 'The challenge', he says, 'was holding the camera steady on the boat while following the eagle through the lens. I was so excited when I saw the head was sharp and that I'd got the water splash.'
