Uncannily beautiful, this scene shows a cascade of dead fish, including guitarfish and rays, tossed from a Mexican shrimp boat.
It's the incidental, unwanted bycatch from one small net on one short trawl - tiny compared to the devastation caused by industrial-scale nets several kilometres long. In fact, worldwide, millions of tonnes of marine animals are caught unintentionally each year and thrown back into the sea as trash.

He's the author of 10 books and has lectured at venues such as the World Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland), The National Press Club in Washington, DC, and the Sydney Opera House in Australia. He has held solo exhibitions in cities such as Perpignan, Geneva, Barcelona, Lisbon, Shanghai and Washington, DC. In 2014 he was named a National Geographic Photography Fellow.
