Dippy Returns: The Nation's Favourite Dinosaur

This exhibition is now closed.

Dippy Returns: The Nation's Favourite Dinosaur was open from 27 May 2022 to 2 January 2023.

Dippy, the nation's favourite dinosaur, was back for a short visit.

Dippy was the first Diplodocus (DIP-low-DOCK-us) to go on display anywhere in the world when it was gifted to the Museum in 1905. It quickly became a star, capturing hearts and imaginations.

Dippy then left the Museum in 2017 to complete a whirlwind tour of the UK.

Throughout the journey, Dippy witnessed the changing state of nature and how the UK's biodiversity is in sharp decline. Dippy's tour also gave us a much-needed reminder of the joy we can find in our local landscapes - from embracing the quiet of a woodland to noticing birdsong in a busy park.

In this display, you could experience Dippy's memories of nature throughout the UK and see how different communities are connecting with it.
