More about Collections and Specimens

Eileen Harris

Not everyone likes parasitic worms, but Eileen considers them to be some of the most interesting animals on the planet. For her, their complex life-histories and ability to influence the behaviour of their hosts make them fascinating organisms to study.

In her documentation of parasitic worms, Eileen has to also include information on the host, a complex process that goes beyond standard cataloguing of animal specimens. Her work has also impacted the wider community, in helping vets, hospitals and zoos to identify parasitic worms.

Eileen has admitted that she never stops working, even while on holiday, as she often finds herself searching through fish markets for unusual specimens to bring home.
