Gregoryaster? heberti (Cotteau, 1890)

Diagnostic Features
  • Apical disc ethmolytic with four gonopores; genital plate 2 just separating the posterior ocular plates.
  • Labral plate taller than wide; vase-shaped; extending to half-way along the second ambulacral plate.  Sternal plates subequal, with sagittal suture.
  • Peripetalous fasciole present; indented by one plate behind the anterior petals.
  • No trace of subanal or lateroanal fasciole.
Distribution Eocene (Lutetian), Spain.
Type Museum d'Histoire Naturelle, Geneva 27807 (figured syntype of Cotteau, 1890, pl. 5, figs 5-6).
Classification and/or Status Irregularia; Spatangoida; Schizasteridae; ?species of Gregoryaster
Remarks Originally placed in the genus Trachyaster by Cotteau, but differs markedly from the type species in having anterior and posterior petals much more similar in length.
