MicroCT scan of moth head

The Carl Zeiss Xradia Versa 520 is a high resolution micro-CT scanner that can image specimens from 150µm to 3cm in diameter. Under certain scanning conditions the machine can achieve a resolution of 0.25µm. Ideal for small objects or items with low density.

X-ray Microscopy (XRM)

The Versa 520 combines classic X-ray cone beam magnification with optical lenses (0.4X, 4X, 20X and 40X) to gain additional magnification of your sample/specimen.

  • 0.4X lens with a 2mm FOV can achieve a pixel size of 1µm
  • 4X lens with a 1mm FOV can achieve a pixel size of 0.5µm
  • 20X lens with a 0.5mm FOV can achieve a pixel size of 0.25µm
  • Even higher resolutions can be achieved using the 40X lens (at high levels of magnification lower detector signals requires long scanning times; 3-5 days per scan).
