Linnaean Name: Lotus corniculatus Linnaeus var. corniculatus

Provenance: "Habitat in Europa."
Generitype of: Lotus Linnaeus
Designated by: Green, Prop. Brit. Bot.: 177. 1929.
Type: Lectotype : Herb. Linn. No. 931.23 (LINN)
Designated by: Chrtková-Zertová in Rozpr. Cesk. Akad. Ved., Mat. Prír. 83(4) : 28, f. 3 (1973)
Current Name: Lotus corniculatus L.
Current Family: Fabaceae: Faboideae
Comments: Heyn (in Davis, Fl. Turkey 3: 526. 1970) indicated non-fruiting material in the Clifford Herbarium as type, but did not distinguish between the two sheets (Herb. Clifford: 372, Lotus 6A; 6B) preserved there. As they are evidently not part of the same gathering, Art. 9.15 does not apply. Chrtková-Zertová (in Ann. Naturhist. Mus. Wien 75: 34. 1971) identified this material as L. uliginosus Schkur, and subsequently (1973) made an explicit type choice.
