Eriechinus Pomel, 1883, p. 114

Distribution Carboniferous, ?England
Name gender masculine
Type Palaechinus sphaericus Scouler [= Lovenechinus lacazei (Julien, 1890)] by monotypy.
Species Included Only the type species
Classification and/or Status A genus based on erroneous observations and on a type that is not the one supposed.  Jackson (1912, p. 326) treated this as an illegal name.

According to Jackson (1912, footnote to p. 303) "Pomel's (1883) Eriechinus was evidently based not on M\'Coy\'s sphaericus but on de Konick's (1869, 1870) figure of what he called Palechinus sphaericus. Pomel says of this genus that it differs by the structue of the apex, one of the genitals having only a single pore, and this structure is that shown by de Koninck. De Koninck's observations were incorrect and his specimen was not Palaechinus sphaericus M\'Coy, but is here referred to Lovenechinus lacazei (Julien)".
