[subjective synonym of Encope L. Agassiz, 1840.]
|Diagnostic Features||Like Encope, but with disjunct interambulacrum 5 (by first pair of post-basicoronal ambulacral plates).|
|Distribution||Pliocene to Recent, Caribbean, the Americas.|
|Type||Encope micropora L. Agassiz, 1841 by original designation (Phelan, 1928, p. 128).|
|Classification and/or Status||Clypeasteroida; Scutellina; Scutelliformes; Scutellidea; Mellitidae.
Subjective junior synonym of Encope.
|Remarks||A clear separation between the Encope (Echinodesma) and Encope (Encope) is difficult because all intermediate states between a continuos and fully disjunct interambulacrum 5 exist. Separation of the disjunct forms seems thus arbitrary and Echinadesma is considered as junior synonym of Encope here.
