Diagnostic Features
  • Test bottle-shaped with strongly elongate anterior and posterior rostra; thin-shelled.
  • Apical disc with two gonopores only opening in single anterior genital plate (?=G2). Compact. Posterior ocular plates far removed from remaining plates of apical disc.
  • Ambulacra all similar with minute pores only.
  • Anterior ambulacrum deeply sunken from ambitus adorally, forming a funnel-like opening leading to the peristome.
  • Peristome subcircular and facing anteriorly into frontal groove.
  • Plastron plating orthosternous; sternal plate enlarged and followed by a pair of symmetrical episternal plates.
  • Plastron plating disjunct.
  • Ambulacra I and V continuous on oral surface; not separated by intercalated plates of interambulacra 1 and 4.
  • Scattered small tubercles distributed over the aboral surface.
  • Periproct supramarginal, overarched by interambulacral plates.
  • Subanal fasciole present. 
There are two subgenera: E. (Echinosigra) and E. (Echinogutta)

Monophyletic.

Remarks

Differs from Pourtalesia by having a much extended anterior rostrum.
