Dysgnophos was originally proposed as a subgenus of Gnophos Treitschke, 1825, and was again so proposed by Wehrli, 1953, in Seitz, Gross-Schmett. Erde 4 (Suppl.): 592. It was raised to generic rank by Vojnits, 1975, Annls hist.-nat. Mus. natn. hung. 67: 193.
